From 1968 to 2018, Red Delicious was the most produced cultivar in the United States. The bright crimson color makes it the quintessential red apple, giving it strong shelf appeal but the flavor doesn’t keep up with the appearance. Red Delicious has a sweet but very mild flavor, with a light crispness.
